Georgia, in the native language of Sakartul, is a country located in the South Caucasus, which borders the Black Sea from the west, Russia from the north, Azerbaijan Republic from the southeast, and Turkey and Armenia from the south. The area of ​​Georgia is 69,700 square kilometers and its population in January 2021 was more than 4 million people. Georgia is a centralized semi-presidential republic and its government is elected through representative democracy.

Although it experienced ups and downs after this date, it was divided into several political units in the 15th century. In the years 1878-1801, the Russian Empire gradually occupied the lands of Georgia. After the Russian Revolution, the independent country – the Democratic Republic of Georgia (1921-1918) fell victim to the Bolsheviks and became a part of the Soviet Union in 1922.

Georgia regained its independence in 1991. After a period of disorder caused by ethnic wars and economic crisis, the country achieved relative stability at the end of 1990. In 2003, the “Rose Revolution” happened. The government of Georgia is trying to join NATO and the Union. It is also trying to return the occupied areas (occupied by Russia in 2008) and does not have diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. At the same time, Georgia has cooperation agreements with the European Union and NATO, which has created important developments for Georgia and the strategic position of this country. It has created the conditions for further prosperity of the country.

The name of the country of Georgia “Sakartolo” comes from the root “kart” which refers to the tribes living in Georgia. In the years 1918-1921, it was named “Democratic Republic of Georgia” and after 1990 it was named as the Republic of Georgia, the international code of Georgia is ge.

Georgia is one of the most beautiful countries located in both Europe and Asia, and one of the goals of the country’s political authorities is to become a member of the European Union and NATO. Georgia is currently an observer member of the European Union and NATO.
